What is gynecomastia? The problem of breast growth in men are connected to various reasons. The most well-known cause among the people is the weight gain that leads to fat in the breast area. In addition, factors such as the fat tissue around the chest area created due to alcohol use, food supplements and medication used in in bodybuilding and long-term usage of some drugs (such as antidepressants) causes breast growth in men.

Before Gynecomastia Surgery

According to the planning and examinations performed with the patient before the operation, the most appropriate breast form is decided for the body structure. Depending on the quality of breast growth in the patient, there are two different approaches to aesthetic operation: Open surgery and Liposuction.

If the breast growth is at moderate or advanced level, open surgery method is applied. It is performed under general anesthesia and lasts about 2 hours. Excessive tissue is removed through small cuts in the chest area. If the sagging is advanced, the skin tissue should be removed as well. The cuts are closed with sutures that do not leave marks and the surgery is completed.

If the growth in the breast is not advanced, tissue surplus is removed by entering from below the arm or breast with liposuction method. The surgery performed under local anesthesia lasts between 30 and 90 minutes.

Blood-diluting drugs and foods should be discontinued 10 days prior to surgery.
Smoking and alcohol use should be terminated one week in advance.

After Gynecomastia Surgery

The patient should stay in the hospital one night after surgery if an open procedure is used. In the liposuction method, the patient is discharged on the same day.
Pain that will be felt after surgery is eliminated by using painkillers. In case of edema or tenderness, these complaints will disappear within 3 days at most.
After the operation, the patient uses a corset continuously for 3 weeks. At the end of this period, the patient only uses a breast corset while performing activities that tires his body. After six weeks, there is no need to use a corset.
Full recovery takes place at the end of the 6th month.
